Get Phenomenal Relief!!!!

What is SAN/400 (Spool Archiving Utility)?

SAN/400 is an exciting new SPOOL FILE ARCHIVE UTILITY for the IBM iSeries platform. This tool gives the systems operations people the ability to automatically roll spool files either off-line to tape or after the specified number of days for an output queue deleted from the system. The control is at the output queue level.

Spool files that have been archived to tape are in a compressed format saving tape space. All files that are archived can be searched for online and the correct tape volume id presented to the operator for a restore operation, on this or the next OS/400 Release.

The utility provides a command interface that you simply run daily out of your job scheduler, to do all the archiving automatically. Spool files within an output queue can be online prior to archiving for a maximum of 7 days. Until then the spool files are rotated automatically with SAN/400's maintained internal output queues. Options exist to only rotate those files in a non-ready status due to conditions such as end-of-forms existing in several writer and outqueue combinations on the system.

REQUIREMENTS

OS/400 3.1.0 or higher

START HERE

  1. Return here after installation, see SHARED FOLDERS STYLE INSTALLATION or NON-SHARED FOLDERS STYLE INSTALLATION.
  2. Unlock the product, see UNLOCK PRODUCT.
  3. Add SANEXE to your library list.
  4. Issue the WRKARCID Command and setup control information on the output queues you want SAN/400 to maintain. (DETAIL instructions are contained in the REFERENCE Section of this document) Work With Spool Archive IDs
  5. Grant the *PUBLIC *USE authority to the following related user space programs *PGM object type in QSYS:
  6. Place the command SANEXE/MOVARCID with the *ALL option or a specific Archive ID, in your automatic job scheduler system. (see sample code)

The user profile running this command is assumed to have *SPLCTL special authority on their profile. This command rotates the output queues and creates savefiles for those outqueues that are specified for a saving and deletes the final days output for those queues specified for deletion. The SAVSPLARC command will move these savefiles later to tape and deletes the savefiles from the system.

  7. The save to tape operation is evoked by using the command SANEXE/SAVSPLARC to a specific tape device with the TAPE(xxxx) parameter. The system operator will receive the tape mount message, everything else is automatic and tapes are assumed to be initialized according to your internal standards.

WRKARCID (Work with Archive ID)

Work With Spool Archive IDs
NOTE:To add more to the processing simply use the F6 command to add. SAN/400 internally keeps rotation outqueues in SANDB that are automatically being managed by the program product.

ADD/EDIT Spool Archive ID

Edit Spool Archive ID
NOTE:When reducing the number of days SAN/400 consolidates spoolfiles from those days removed to the last day internal outqueue SAN/400 is maintaining internally in the system. When changing the source or originating outqueue those spoolfiles still existing in the source outqueue will NOT be touched by SAN/400. Archive IDs must be alpha characters. AA, BB, etc.

Display Spool Archive ID

Display Spool Archive ID
NOTE:(RDY) status processing options only effect the primary or source outqueue, not SAN/400 internal processing queues.

Work Spool Archive ID

Spool Archive History Information
NOTE:This subfile is presented in LIFO order for searching purposes.

Work Spool File History

Spool File Members History
NOTE:A restored spool file is respooled for you automatically in outqueue SANDB/RESTORED for your controlled reprinting etc. The user running this request MUST have *SPLCTL special authority in their user profile to provide them with the spool control authority needed to respool the file. SAN/400 will prompt you for the TAPE drive to be used for restoring.

Work History by User

History by User ID
NOTE:This searches across output Queues in LIFO (Last In First Out) order, for a specific user profile.

Work With History

Spool File Members History
NOTE:The next screen displayed will ask for a specific tape volume ID to be mounted and interactively restore and respool the specific report requested.

Restore Spool File

Restore Spool File Member
NOTE:This is an interactive job step, with the spoolfile being respooled in the outqueue SANDB/RESTORED.

Roll Spool File Processing

Move Archive ID (MOVARCID)
NOTE:Activating the rolling process of moving all spool files that are not being actively printed is accomplished with the MOVARCID command as follows. All archives can be rolled at once with the *ALL option or a specific archive ID can be rolled with the specific ID. This process is actually building savefiles in library SANDB for later processing by the SAVARCID command to take them to tape archival.

Save To Tape Processing

Save Spool Archives (SAVSPLARC)
NOTE:For archiving to tape those Outqueues specified for saving the command SAVSPLARC is used. This command will save all savefiles created by the MOVARCID command off to an initialized tape. (Please use care in the naming of tapes involved in this process to allow for unique names and labels on these tapes for future restoration of a spooled file)
